Progress

It’s that time of the month again, first Wednesday, which means, it’s Insecure Writer’s Support Group:

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds.

I’ve been writing almost every day and, even with the holidays, I’m up to over 22,000 words on my WIP. Not really sure if I’m close to the end on this novella or if I’m just past the middle; it depends on a lot of things. But I’m happy with the progress and I’m hoping to be done by the end of the month.

JANUARY’S QUESTION: What writing rule you wish you’d never heard of?
I can’t say there’s a writing rule I wish I’d never heard of, but there certainly are a few I’m glad I found out, namely how to write in deep POV. I remember when a beta reader for a chapter I was entering in a contest pointed out to me all the filter verbs and said how these pulled the reader from the action. I’d never come across that before so I started research filter verbs which in turn brought me to deep POV, and it was like a new world opened up. My writing has become so much stronger since I started paying attention to eliminating filter verbs for a stronger deep POV.
