One thing I’ve Learned

I finished my first full length novel last year on Valentine’s Day. If there is one thing that I’ve learned since then is patience. I was ready to have it published independently by Summer. I revised it a few times, had it read by critique partners and beta readers, did lots of edits in between, and I thought I was ready.

Fortunately, something came up that forced me to wait. In the months since then, I’ve learned that I still have lots more to learn and waiting has been good for me and for my novel. I’m learning more about the ins and outs of publishing, and about indie publishing specifically, I’m networking online with awesome authors who share their knowledge, and I’m taking the time to plan and make sure I have everything in place before my book goes public. I feel confident that waiting is beneficial and my novel will be much better for it.

But I won’t lie. Waiting is hard. Being patient is maddening sometimes. Especially nowadays where everything is so readily instant, and publishing is made as easy as pushing a little button. But for me, and at this time, waiting is right. And patience, while frustrating, is one of the lessons I’m learning in this journey.

What is one thing you’ve learned that has had an impact on you and your art?
