Happy New Year!

HNY

Here it is, a shiny new year, brimming with potential and new dreams. What will it bring?

A few weeks ago, I was in Relief Society’s class at church (the class for women) and the teacher brought up ‘career aspirations’. I joked and said I didn’t have any. Some of the sisters laughed, and others turned to me and said, “Yes, you do”. I dismissed it at the time, but when I got home, I thought about it. In the end, I realized I do have some career aspirations related to writing, however vague they may be.

By some sort of default, this time of the year incites aspirations and goals. I’m not set on writing them and making a big fuss about it but here I am contradicting myself. So these are the things in my mind for this year:

  1. The future of The Secret Life of Daydreams. As I write, it still sits at the publisher I sent it to back in July. By the end of the year, I’m hoping to know where this book is in terms of publishing, be it with the publisher or  independently published.
  2. Finish my second book. This is Simon’s and Isabel’s story that I started a few months back. It’s not an easy story, they are complicated and so is their relationship, which makes it all the more worthwhile to finish.
  3. Start and finish the new project. Yes, it’s true, I have a new secret project. It’s different and exciting, and totally unexpected, and that’s all I can say for now. (Oh, alright, maybe I can tell you their names: Chris and Luciana.)

This is it. My fears and insecurities in my writing will be enough impediments to higher and loftier goals, but if I keep to these, I’ll be plenty busy. And I promise to give updates as they come.

So Happy New Year! May 2014 bring you lots of health and happiness, lots of good books to read, and beautiful words to write!
